Genius: there's no other word for it - Part XXXXXVII

I can't think of many more memorable opening sequences to a movie...



It seems that Channel 4 has blocked this - something to do with copyright, apparently. So, here's something else, until Channel 4 pulls this, too:

Ana: Great, isn't it? If one doesn't know the story, already, one realizes as Ewan MacGregor collapses on his back in that dive that that opening chase sequence is about him and "Spud" engaging in shoplifting, in order to fund their heroin addiction. It's difficult to say who the best performance is from - MacGregor and Robert Carlyle are the obvious, big-name actors, but the other roles are brilliantly played, too.

Great movie. Good book, too, although quite hard work, seeing as it's written in the Edinburgh patois.
