Create the Life You Deserve

Just under three years ago, I attended a NLP Practitioner's course, operated by a company called Inner Compass. Inner Compass has since gone into receivership, although the name has been acquired, and is still being used to sell goods and services. As far as I can establish, most of the people who were employed by Inner Compass are still in position. Hmmm. That sounds like a phoenix company, to me. Still.

Anyway, the Company failed me on the course, for reasons that it was unwilling to go into any detail over. That is, I was told that I was "seeking significance," although what this amounted to was not explained. Now, I don't think people should go around throwing around language, when they are unable to detail what they're talking about, because then it makes them look incompetent, but still.

So, having paid over 3,500 quid, I have no call on the Company to provide me with the certificate, nor to find me a place on another course, as was promised by the then owner of the Company, Andy Harrington, who still consults for the new company. Not within the Law, anyway (but in Equity? Well, that's a different matter). As "Sherry," the person who took my telephone call this morning, put it "your three and half thousand pounds doesn't exist, anymore". Right, thanks for that, Sherry. Actually, it does exist: it's in Andy Harrington's back pocket, and I can quite legitimately trace it all the way there.

So, I am currently awaiting the largesse of the new owner, who, I am assured, is very keen to maintain the good name of Inner Compass. I imagine we'll establish just how keen he is.

I look forward to reading how the new owner reacts to your inquisition!

Well, if blogging of late is anything to go by then Inner Compass should prepare themselves accordingly.

Who is their PR guy?

[shrug] They all fancy themselves as PR gurus, I think - I write "fancy themselves," because they've alredy dropped a bollock on that front by failing to respond promptly, or at all - all contact has been initiated by me.

I don't really care who this new guy is, frankly - the new company looks much like the old: a bunch of hucking fucksters.

where's the new blog titled "Seeking Significance"? LOL!

My inner compass says keep on calling them until they want to shut you up with cash!

Maybe a lawsuit threat for discrimination toward those who seek significance according to their "reason" for failing a person.

Demand the fine print should have stated "any person found seeking significance shall not pass this course, and that judgement will be based on our own decision therefore leaving you to always sit and wonder what our meaning of seeking significance means by definition, and if you try and find out or attempt to receive a full or partial refund we will declare your money has disappeared into the back pocket of an idiot."

Well, if the receivership was a scam (incidentally, I don't recall receiving any notification from the Official Receiver to the effect that the Company was going under, and what I ought to do to recoup what I could of my 3.5k), then, given the issues with Constructive Trusts, in this case, they may want to think twice about trying it again. Outside of that, the general public has been warned, and if it fails to do its due diligence, then it only has itself to blame. As to me, legal action is always a possibility.

Steve: I've deleted your post, owing to one potentially libellous line - they may look like crooks, in your opinion, but one may not state outright that that is what they are - only a court may do that. Having said that, I'm inclined to agree - the new guy hasn't bothered to contact me, since I phoned/mailed IC.

Mr Jarl Moe is the man who has owned the Inner Compass since 14th September 2006.

Andy Harrinton & his wife Emma, are no longer associated with Inner Compass since 19th September 2008.

They have gone on to do their own projects - seems like they don't agree with how some things are being run within the company.

New speakers are being brought in to speak for Inner Compass.

Hope that helps.

Anonymous: Thank you for taking the time to post a comment, albeit anonymously. However, IC The Elder still has my £3.5k, and I still don't have my Certificate. IC The Younger may have chosen to ignore me, and Andy Harrington may believe that he should not associate with them, but the fact remains that The Younger has chosen not to make good the obligation that The Elder placed upon itself, when it promised that all delegates would be certificated.

The only loser in this, as far as I can see, is me. That remains unsatisfactory.

Anonymous: That's very interesting - although it merely confirms what I had surmised. I think there may be more to this than meets the eye, though - there's no question that NLP works for a lot of people, although by carrying on in this way, Andy Harrington et al have killed the thing stone dead, when the effectiveness of the method would have ensured that his business grew gradually. Instead, by trying to grow exponentially (and using a bunch of dubious tactics to achieve this), the thing's failed.

Sad, really - if NLP achieved wider recognition as a treatment for mental health issues I think it's a good enough methodology to challenge Pharma, which would have been nice. Instead, here we are bitching about how we've been ripped off!
